The next chapter in Insomniac's Spider-Man series is shaping up to be a darker and more intense sequel

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Trailer Introduces Kraven The Hunter, Symbiote Spider-Man

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was first revealed all the way back in the September 2021 PlayStation Showcase, with a trailer that showed glimpses of the Venom symbiote as it lurked in the shadows. Insomniac has kept details on the game under wraps, but one interesting tidbit that the studio did share was that the overall tone for this latest entry in the series is that it'll be darker when compared to the previous games.

"If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire [Strikes Back]," Marvel Games vice president creative Bill Rosemann said shortly after the sequel was revealed. "It gets a little darker."

As a PS5-only game, Sony's current console has more hardware horsepower to use when rendering both Spider-Men, and Rosemann mentioned that one of the small details that you'll spot if you look hard enough is that the heroes are now wearing more detailed costumes.

"The team did such a great job on the costumes that we don't, you know, want to throw the baby out with the bathwater," Rosemann said in regard to the updates. "But now it's PS5, what can we do to update the costumes and textures a little bit?"
