Star Wars: The Acolyte Season 1 Has An Alternate Ending With An Odd Romantic Twist
Two characters almost became intimate during the closing moments of The Acolyte's Season 1 finale
After trying to get Mae (Amandla Stenberg) murder a Jedi without a weapon for most of the season, Qimir/The Stranger (Manny Jacinto) witnessed Mae's sister, Osha (Stenberg), pull off that feat when she killed her former master, Sol (Lee Jung-jae), for murdering her mother years earlier. Afterwards, Osha agreed to be trained by Qimir. And in the original ending, Osha and Qimir would have shared a kiss.
"I'm just going to put it out there. There was a version that we filmed where Osha and the Stranger actually kiss," said Jacinto during an interview with Vulture. "But we felt that it may have not been too earned at that moment. I think it was just too early on."
Although Osha turned to the dark side, the feeling behind-the-scenes was that a romance with the man who killed several of her former friends among the Jedi was moving too quickly to be believable. According to Jacinto, he suggested the ending that was ultimately used.
"It's just on the cutting-room floor," recalled Jacinto. "But I suggested, 'Maybe not the kiss, but how about a hand-hold?' Some sort of wanting to console, some sort of physicality that expresses that he cares for her and feels for her and that they're in this together now. That's something that, if we do a Season 2, maybe we can work toward, if the fans want it."
Disney+ and Lucasfilm haven't shared their plans for the future of The Acolyte, but there are more than enough lingering plot threads to pick up in a potential second season. You can stream all of The Acolyte Season 1 on Disney+.
