Nintendo will host a second lottery event in Japan, but Furukawa stressed that Switch 2 supplies will still be limited. The company also plans to improve on production of the Switch 2 past the initial launch period, and it currently recommends that Japanese fans make plans to purchase the console from other retailers and online store.
Meanwhile, Switch 2 preorders in the US will officially open up starting April 24. Nintendo of America will also offer the console through its store beginning in May, with priority being given to registrants who meet a specific set of criteria. The selected people will receive an invitation email valid for three days, which will allow them to preorder the Switch 2, provided they have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership, have been subscribed for a minimum of 12 months, and have 50 hours or more of total gameplay hours on their account.
After a period of uncertainty, Nintendo revealed that Switch 2 prices in the US will remain unchanged--$450 for the base model Switch 2 and $500 for the version that includes Mario Kart World--but prices for first-party accessories are increasing. Ahead of its release on June 5, Nintendo has also begun sharing more details on the Switch 2, like how the new Pro Controller can be fully charged much more quickly than the original model.
