It's unknown why the game would have this hidden mode, but its speculated that it could unlock when being played on Nintendo Switch 2. There's a chance that the game could receive a patch that lets it take full advantage of the new hardware's capabilities. With the full extent of Switch 2's backwards-compatibility limitations still unknown, though, it's unclear whether this is actually the case.

Nintendo is airing a Direct on April 2 dedicated to Switch 2 so we'll see more information about the system then.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is the second entry in the Xenoblade series, which tells the story of humanity as it crash-lands on the planet Mira and tries to make it its new home while searching for remnants of a ship called the White Whale.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition launches today, March 20, for Nintendo Switch. This version hosts a bevy of quality-of-life and gameplay changes that the Wii U original didn't have. In GameSpot's Xenoblade Chronicles X review, we said, "X is a grand adventure that satiates your appetite for exploration and combat in ways that few games ever do, but because getting started is half the battle, it’s an experience reserved for dedicated players who have the patience and energy to unearth its greatest treasures."
