Golfer Nelly Korda Just Made History at the Tokyo Olympics
Nelly Korda is approaching G.O.A.T. status. On June 27, 2021, the golfer won her first major at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in Atlanta. The win made her the number one player in the world, a huge accomplishment. Nelly kept the momentum going at the Tokyo Olympics this weekend when she won gold in the women's individual golf event for the U.S.
In doing so, she made history. According to ESPN, Nelly Korda is the first player—man or woman—to win both a major and the Olympic gold medal in the same year.

"This is just kind of like almost legend status as a golfer, period, male or female," says her sister Jessica Korda, who also competed in the Olympics, according to ESPN. "It's tough to win out here and she makes it look easy, but those girls are good. So for her to be doing, it's insane to me. This is like total GOAT [Greatest Of All Time] status to me."
Nelly celebrated the win as any 23-year-old would: by posting about it on Instagram. “Olympian and a gold medalist…..Wow, what an honor to wear red, white and blue on the podium," Nelly wrote in her caption. She also shared a video of herself cheering with her gold medal.

Nelly is one of many women who have made history at the Olympics this year. Take Allyson Felix, for example. When the runner took home a bronze in the 400-meter dash—her 10th Olympic medal—she set a record for the most medals any American woman has won in track and field.
