  • Igloo announced that more than a million of its 90 Quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers have been recalled.
  • The affected coolers have a faulty tow handle which can pinch and crush users' fingers against the body of the cooler. So far, 12 injuries have been reported, including fingertip amputations.
  • Check your rolling cooler's manufacture date and model number to see if it's included in the recall, and if it is, stop using the product and request a new handle, Igloo said.

More than a million Igloo rolling coolers have been recalled due to the potential for injury, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned customers Thursday.

According to the recall notice, the tow handles on certain Igloo 90 Quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers can pinch and crush users’ fingers against the cooler itself. So far, 12 people in the U.S. have reported injuries from using the affected coolers, which include “fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations,” the CPSC said.

The coolers with the potentially-dangerous handles were manufactured between August 2018 and December 2023.

Which Igloo Coolers Are Affected?

The recalled Igloo coolers were sold between January 2019 and January 2025 at various stores nationwide, including Costco, Target, and Dick's Sporting Goods, as well as via online retailers such as Amazon and Igloo’s website. They retail for between $80 and $140.

About 1,060,000 of these potentially-dangerous roller coolers were sold in the U.S., in addition to about 47,000 in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico.

Over 40 different models of the Igloo 90 Quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers could have this safety issue, and they were sold in a variety of color combinations.

How to Know If Your Igloo Cooler Is Included in the Recall

To determine if your Igloo cooler is included in the recall, you should check for the model number and the date code, the company advised. But, as you investigate, be sure to avoid putting your fingers near the tow handle.

The model number—a five-digit code—should be listed on a label either on the bottom or side of the cooler. To check for the date when the cooler was manufactured, check for a ring imprinted on the bottom of the cooler. It should have an arrow pointing to a number signifying the month in which it was made, in addition to the manufacturing year opposite the arrow.

Igloo emphasized that the recall only affects coolers made prior to January 2024. If you bought a 90 Quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers more recently, the product should be unaffected.

If Your Cooler Is Included in the Recall, Here’s What to Do

If the manufacture date code and model number match one of ones listed in the recall list, stop using it immediately. You can also fill out a recall registration form on Igloo’s website to request a free replacement handle.

With any other questions, you can call Igloo customer service at 888-943-5182, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, or email them at igloo90qt@sedgwick.com.
