Over 12,000 cartons of chicken broth sold at Walmart have been recalled due to potential spoilage, the Food and Drug Administration announced on Wednesday.

TreeHouse Foods, which sells its products at Walmart under the Great Value brand, voluntarily recalled 2,023 six-pack cases of chicken broth—for a total of 12,138 cartons—on Dec. 11.

The FDA advisory said the products were recalled because potential packaging failures could "compromise the sterility of the product, resulting in spoilage."

Per the advisory, the recalled chicken broth was sold in stores in Alabama and Arkansas, but in a statement to Health, Walmart said a total of 242 stores were impacted in nine states, including Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.

The affected products are 48-ounce cartons of Great Value Family Size Chicken Broth with a best-if-used-buy date of March 25, 2026 and a UPC of 007874206684.

The FDA has yet to classify the recall's risk level, and the advisory did not mention whether any illnesses were reported in connection with the chicken broth.

If you have the affected chicken broth in your fridge or pantry, Walmart says to stop consuming it, throw it away, and submit a request for a refund.
