What Cereal Was Recalled?
In late May, Post Consumer Brands, LLC voluntarily recalled 5,376 cereal boxes with the following information:
- Product Name: Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds
- Size: 3 lbs. (48 oz.), split into two bags for freshness
- UPC: 8 84912-01428 3
- Best if Used By: APR0926 RCA, and APR1026 RCA
Which States Are Affected?
- Colorado
- California
Why Was the Cereal Recalled?
The recalled cereal may contain a foreign material: metal.
Foreign objects usually enter foods at some point during the production process and often present a safety hazard.
The FDA has given the recall a class II risk level, which means eating the affected cereal "may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences," or where the chance of serious health consequences is "remote."
What You Should Do
Post Consumer Brands told Health that the recalled cereal was only sent to Sam's Club locations and never reached store shelves.
If you shop at Sam's Club, you may want to double-check your cereal to err on the safe side. If you do have the recalled cereal, toss or return it.
