‘Bachelor the Musical’ Is the Best Thing You’ll Watch on TikTok Today

Currently singing “Right Reasons.”

What if I told you that there was a musical based on The Bachelor? Would you immediately start guessing song titles like “Will You Accept This Rose” and “Can I Steal You for a Sec?” Or would you simply point me to the perfect SNL parody of the dating show starring the one and only Adele?

As much as I enjoyed the songstress belting out her own discography while trying to win the heart of a bumbling Bachelor Beck Bennett, I need everyone to check out Bachelor the (Unauthorized Parody) Musical, which is currently making the rounds on TikTok

This parody musical is seriously spot on, highlighting the ridiculous nature of the ABC reality franchise. Created by Bachelor fanatic Richelle Meiss, Bachelor the Musical is an actual thing that ran to sold-out crowds at the University of California, Berkley, for six months before expanding to a full-length musical, per the show’s website. The national tour is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2021.

Thankfully, Meiss and her team—composers Sam Johnides and Tony Gonzalez as well as director Tim Drucker—began posting snippets from the show on TikTok in December 2020. They started by sharing a clip of “Sob Story,” which now has over 270K  views as well as 54.5K likes.

“Can I just butt in for a sec,” Jessica R. from San Fransico says before launching into her tragic backstory. “My mom and dad both died from cancer this year. It’s bad enough losing one, but I lost two that I held dear,” she sings. “I thought about not coming and just saying I was done. But my mom and stepdad…they would have wanted me to come.

“This is my sob story packaged for reality TV,” she belts in the chorus. “This is my sob story to make America love me.”

From there, TikTok users began suggesting what else should be featured in the parody, and the creators did not leave them disappointed. “Now we need one about how family is the most important thing and how her parents are inspirational,” one fan replied to the original video. Thankfully, they had a clip for that. Check out “First Impression”:

Of course, there’s also a song for the Bachelor villain. “Haters see ya laters cause I’m one of the top players,” sings one character in a bright red dress. “Keep those mean tweets spewing, know exactly what I’m doing. It’s called screen time…look it up!”

“Surely one where the main message is I’m here for the right reason,” another TikTok user commented. Yep, the song’s called “Right Reasons,” and that reason is fame (and narcissism).

The spoof also pokes gentle fun at Neil Lane and at Bachelor dates. Plus, there’s even a bonus parody song about Zac C.’s hometown date with Tayshia Adams from the last season of The Bachelorette

But don’t worry, Bachelor Nation can take a joke: Wells Adams, Ashley Iaconetti, Jared Haibon, and Becca Martinez have all sat in the audience.

Make sure to follow their TikTok and look out for Bachelor the Musical in a theater near you when it goes on tour. Meanwhile, Matt James’s season of The Bachelor airs tomorrow, January 4, and I can’t wait to hear all the sob stories.
