Hair for days.
Bella Hadid’s Hair Is Now Mocha Chocolate and Superlong
Bella Hadid loves changing up her hair. In 2020 alone she got chunky highlights, cut her own bangs, and experimented with gray hair (it was a filter, but still). And now she's debuting a new look for summer 2021: mocha chocolate.
Hadid's hair colorist, Jenna Perry, revealed the shade's name on Instagram in late June alongside a photo of the supermodel in Paris. “Mocha chocolate for our sweetie @bellahadid,” she wrote.
Also, check out the length: Hadid's hair is now long. Superlong. Like, down-her-back long. She has hairstylist Jessica Gillin to thank for that. (Gillin's Instagram is chock-full of pics for haircut and extension inspo.)
And while we're here, can we take a second to admire Hadid's pants? The whole look is A+.
Is Bella Hadid's switch-up making you think about going brunette? If so, Rex Jimieson, a colorist at Maxine Salon in Chicago, revealed some tips to Glamour: Just know the color appears more vibrant when it's a little darker than your usual “comfort zone”—especially with a summer tan. Brunette shades typically work better for folks whose natural hair color is already on the medium-to-dark side, so keep that in mind.
Here's what Jimieson says to ask your salon if you're ready to take the plunge: a single process color, around a level three or four wash or cool tone. The color may appear black in photos, but in real life you'll lose the underglow if you choose level one or an actual black dye.
With so many celebrities going blonde (Selena Gomez, Lucy Hale, and Billie Eilish have all taken the plunge), Bella Hadid's brown hair is a fun change of pace. When the model first burst onto the scene in 2016, it was her signature color—and many thought that was to differentiate herself from older sister Gigi. But she set the record straight to Glamour. “I didn’t really dye my hair to separate myself from Gigi,” she said. “I started dyeing my hair when I was 14. I dyed it black and blue, I wore eyeliner—I was a punk kid. I might want to go blonde eventually!”
Hadid did, in fact, go blonde in 2019. So who knows? Maybe she'll jump on that trend again. Until then, the mocha chocolate is serving, your honor.
