Beyoncé’s Daughter Blue Ivy Just Won Her First Grammy

A queen!

**UPDATE: Sunday, March 14—**Blue Ivy won her first Grammy! “Brown Skin Girl,” which includes a Blue Ivy credit, took home the Grammy for best music video. This makes Blue the second youngest Grammy-winner in history.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Blue Ivy Carter is finally getting the credit she deserves.

Blue Ivy, daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, may only be eight years old, but she's already a Grammy nominee. The young star can be heard singing a few lines in her mom's song “Brown Skin Girl” from Black Is King, the visual companion to the album The Lion King: The Gift. She also starred in the music video too, of course!

She's credited as a cowriter on the song, but when “Brown Skin Girl” was nominated for best music video by the Recording Academy in November, Blue Ivy's name wasn't listed. However, the oversight was fixed on December 11, when Blue Ivy's name was added to an updated nominees list on the Grammys website, per the Associated Press. The Nigerian singer WizKid, who appears in the song as well as the video, was also added.

The A.P. also notes that her work on “Brown Skin Girl” has already netted Blue Ivy a BET Award and an NAACP Image Award, among other honors.

“Brown Skin Girl” not only features Beyoncé's daughter but a number of other celebrity cameos as well, including appearances by Naomi Campbell, Kelly Rowland, and Lupita Nyong'o. In fact, all three Carter kids popped up over the course of Black Is King

Beyoncé recently spoke about the special connection she shares with her children—and Blue Ivy's connection to “Brown Skin Girl” in particular. “Blue is very smart…Blue saw some of the reactions to the ‘Brown Skin Girl’ video, as well as some of the videos from the philanthropic work I’ve done this year. When I tell her I’m proud of her, she tells me that she’s proud of me and that I’m doing a good job,” Beyoncé shared with British Vogue in its December issue. “She melts my heart. I believe the best way to teach them is to be the example.”
