Brandy Drops Her Skin-Care Routine

She says this skin-care line in particular always delivers. “If it ain't broke, don't fix it.”

Brandy is going back to the ‘90s! Well, kind of. In the new, much-anticipated drama *Queens—*which premieres Tuesday, October 19—the singer and actor plays Naomi, a member of the fictional ’90s hip-hop group Nasty B*tches trying to regain her place in the present-day industry. It's an ambitious series that takes place in both time periods, with some seriously lavish locations and impressive performances. (When you have Eve, Naturi Naughton, and Nadine Velazquez as your co-stars, you're gonna go big.)

“Music is my love, so to be a part of such a show where you can sing dance, rap, act…it was so attractive,” Brandy tells me from her hotel room in Atlanta. “And then when I read the script, it was a page turner. I cried, I laughed, and I related so much to the ups and downs of this industry and how sometimes you feel like you have it and then you don't. I was like, Oh my God, I have to be a part of this.”

In order to revisit her '90s alter-ego—who goes by the name Xplicit Lyrics on stage—Brandy collaborated with the Queens hair and makeup team to find the right look. "I loved that I got the chance to bring the braids back and then also do something different as Naomi [in the present day]."

Hairstyles aside, the 42-year-old doesn't look all that different from her 20-something self, crediting a consistent skin-care routine that started young. “I've worked on my skin all my life. I used to go to a lot of different dermatologists because I had eczema at one point," she says. "Now I've found my groove and the products that really work for my skin.” She says IV therapy—also known as vitamin infusion therapy—has done wonders for her skin, as well as taking biotin regularly for strong hair and nails.

But she only recently started with IV therapy; if you want to really know what skin-care product she swears by, she points to the Natura Bissé line (she is not a spokesperson, FYI). “You know the saying, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' So, that's how I look at it.”

And she's right. While Brandy has makeup on for our Zoom interview, I also can't stop starring at her gorgeous skin that literally looks lit from within (and we all know hotel lighting is never great). So what products does she swear by? She's spilling all that and more for Glamour's latest Drop the Routine

My cleanser

I use Natura Bisse's Diamond White Rich Luxury Cleanse and the Diamond Cocoon Daily Cleanse. Those are my two favorites. I have dry skin, and I love that the cleanser is very creamy. It feels like I'm putting lotion on my face, but it's not. It's cleansing my skin, but also moisturizing it at the same time.

I use Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleansing Wipes to take off the makeup. Even if I don't have much makeup on to remove, I love the way it hydrates my skin. It feels amazing and so smooth and gets my face really clean.

I use my Natura Bissé Diamond Extreme Eye to keep the bags down. I've been using the Natura Bissé line for years because it's consistent. It does everything it says it's going to do. It doesn't feel too cake-y or too thick, and all their products make my skin glow.

Jao Hand Refresher. It's the best hand sanitizer, because it smells so good and doesn't leave a sticky residue. It feels like you just washed your hands with soap and water. I have a ton of them. I'm obsessed with it.

I found this new brand, it's a Black-owned brand called GSO Whipped Buttercream. It makes your skin feel so soft, like baby's bottom soft. I use the scrub and the butter whipped cream all over my body. I used to use cocoa butter, but since I found the Good Scents Oils line, I use that. It's amazing.
