The series has been watched by 63 million households.
Bridgerton Had the 5th Biggest Premiere in Netflix History
Word on the street is Netflix’s original series, Bridgerton, is a hit—like, a huge hit. Shonda Rhimes executive-produced the series, and it's the first of several projects she has in development with the streaming platform. For the uninitiated, Bridgerton follows the siblings of a powerful family who try to find love during England’s Regency era. It’s sexy, fun, and wildly popular.
On January 4, Netflix tweeted, “In their first four weeks, it's projected that 63 million households will have courted Shondaland's Bridgerton and 44 million households will have suited up for Robert Rodriguez's We Can Be Heroes, making this our biggest viewing week between Christmas and New Year's ever!” This makes Bridgerton Netflix's fifth-largest original series premiere ever, according to TV Line.

Bridgerton is led by For the People’s Regé-Jean Page and Younger’s Phoebe Dynevor as the main couple, who love to hate each other and hate to love each other. (Read: Their sexual chemistry is off the charts.) Of course, like any Shondaland show, Bridgerton is full of attractive people, endless drama, and juicy storylines. The biggest mystery of the show is the identity of Lady Whistledown, an anonymous scribe documenting the lives of London’s high society. She’s basically a British, more refined Gossip Girl, who’s also voiced by Julie Andrews. See, we told you this show is good.
It premiered Christmas 2020 and, in terms of ratings, is only surpassed by The Witcher season one, Stranger Things season three, Money Heist: Part 4, and Tiger King. Since it hit Netflix, fans have been voicing their enthusiasm on social and are already demanding a second season. It hasn’t even been out two weeks, but Twitter has zero chill.
“I loved the #Bridgerton series so much, I’ve actually watched it twice. Can’t wait for Season two,” one viewer tweeted.

Another wrote, “I think before season two comes out, I would have learned every single scene word for word, with the way I keep re-watching #Bridgerton.” One fan praised Rhimes for her genius: “This series was phenomenal. From the perfectly executed scenes to the stunning musical soundtrack of each episode as well as stellar acting by every cast member. Shonda Rhimes really outdid herself with this one cannot wait for season two!”

Even the cast has hinted they’re ready to film another season. “If the seasons are sticking to the books, then it's Anthony's turn to find love, so we're passing on the baton, in that respect,” Dynevor told Elle in a recent interview. “I want to see Daphne get involved in Anthony's love life a bit, as he sort of meddled with hers quite a lot. I think that will be fun.”
