Cardi B Says COVID-19 Tests Are Costing Her At Least $1,000 Every Week

Cardi B is not staying quiet about how the pandemic is affecting her purse. The “Bodak Yellow” rapper took to Twitter to explain how much she and her team are paying to receive multiple COVID-19 tests a week to make sure they're not transmitting the virus.

“I get Covid tested bout 4 times a week. My glam and management gotta get tested as well. Everytime we get tested is about 250$ each,” she tweeted. “This is seriously a new business.”

Her followers were surprised to learn how much she's forking over for tests. If she's paying for only her tests, then she's spending $1,000 a week. But it's possible she's also footing the bill to have her management and glam squad tested, so she's maybe spending much more than that.

“I thought they were free.... that’s crazy,” one person tweeted. Cardi replied, “It’s free when you go to the doctors and sh*t but when it’s for work and you gotta have people test you at your home is not.”

Some criticized her need to get tested in general. “Cardi b out here paying hundreds of dollars to get tested with her team 4 TIMES A WEEK instead of just staying the fck home while nurses/healthcare workers have gotten maybe 1-2 tests since COVID started, rich people are so annoying,” one person wrote.

Cardi replied to the backlash, explaining she's protecting herself by being extremely cautious. “It’s necessary because if you in my space and you get Covid I can get sued,” she tweeted. “If I do a commercial and I get Covid the company can get sued.Its all about not being a liability and is a requirement.The government should be paying for healthcare workers we pay out our own pockets.”

Cardi said in another message, “Well this tweet is not about complaining is about CAPITALISM!How Covid is becoming a business and if this was part of the plan,” she wrote. “How ya getting mad at me because it’s a requirement to get tested ?Just to shoot a commercial even the janitors must get tested twice.”

One person pointed out that Cardi is simply adhering to industry guidelines, to which she replied, “Yes definitely part of the union. A lot of productions team are party if the union so is a requirement to get tested.”
