She got candid about her past insecurities.
Eva Mendes Says She Thought Her Face Looked ‘Weird’ 20 Years Ago
It can’t be easy to have your face projected onto a 20-foot-high screen for the world to see. Actors are people too, and people get insecure. Eva Mendes admitted as much in an Instagram post on Thursday, May 6, sharing a crop of herself as Ajedrez in the 2003 movie Once Upon a Time in Mexico and opening up about her self-image at the time.
“Just came across this picture from a movie that was almost 20 years ago,” she wrote in the caption. “I remember seeing this photo back then and thinking my face looked ‘weird’ and that my bone structure was odd…yadda yadda…you know all those insecurities that a 26 year old can have.”
Nowadays, though, Mendes is kinder to herself. “Meanwhile 20 years later and now I wish I still had that ‘weird’ face and odd ‘bone structure.’ 😩 My point? I’m not sure. Maybe it’s if you hate a photo of yourself wait 20 years then you’ll love it,” she wrote. Literally, yep. Hindsight is 20/20, and with perfect vision, we can see that we’ve always looked good.
Eva Mendes ended her #throwback post with a quote–“Youth is wasted on the young,” from Oscar Wilde–and soon racked up likes and comments from people relating to her wisdom. “You are so beautiful inside and out now and then!!!!” wrote Lord of the Rings star Liv Tyler.
If Mendes wants to experiment with beauty at home, she has two super creative makeup artists at her disposal: her daughters, Esmeralda and Amada. A year ago she shared a selfie of herself covered in colorful makeup smears provided by her two girls and captioned it, “They’ve won ❤️.” We can only imagine their skills have improved since then. Personally, I’d love to see a video series of makeup tutorials.
