Evan Rachel Wood Says Ex Marilyn Manson Abused Her for Years
In a statement released Monday, February 1, Evan Rachel Wood says her ex-boyfriend, Marilyn Manson, abused her for years.
“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” she wrote. “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
Vanity Fair reports four other women, standing in solidarity with Wood, came forward with their allegations against Manson, which included claims of psychological abuse and sexual assault. Per VF, Manson was unavailable for comment but has “categorically denied” similar accounts in the past.
In 2018, Wood outlined her experience with sexual assault to the House Judiciary Subcommittee to help pass the Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights in all 50 states. “My experience with domestic violence was this: Toxic mental, physical and sexual abuse which started slow but escalated over time, including threats against my life, severe gaslighting and brainwashing, waking up to the man that claimed to love me raping what he believed to be my unconscious body," she said, leaving the name of her abuser anonymous at the time.
In 2009, Manson troublingly told Spin magazine, “I have fantasies every day about smashing [Wood's] skull in with a sledgehammer," a quote that has since garnered widespread criticism online. A representative for Manson said the quote was a “theatrical rock star interview promoting a new record, and not a factual account.”
Evan Rachel Wood and Marilyn Manson were involved from 2007 to 2010. Their relationship started when she was 18 and he was 36.
