She was inspired by Beth Harmon in "The Queen's Gambit."
Gigi Hadid Has Ginger Red Hair Now, and She Looks Gorgeous
Gigi Hadid is just as obsessed with The Queen's Gambit as everyone else.
On March 5, Hadid walked in the Versace fashion show—her first runway appearance since becoming a mom. And while the clothes were stunning, what really grabbed my attention was Hadid's gorgeous new ginger hair, which reminded me a lot of Elizabeth Olsen's red hair in WandaVision.
But it was another TV character who inspired this look for Hadid. “She is dedicated to everyone responsible for The Queen’s Gambit,” Hadid shared on Instagram Stories, while her stylist, Panos Papandrianos, shared more angles on his own feed. “Ginger for Gigi 🧡🔥🧡,” he captioned the video and photos.
Hadid is far from the only one who's been sucked into the riveting world of chess over the last few months. According to Netflix, 62 million households viewed The Queen's Gambit in its first 28 days, making it the “biggest scripted limited series on Netflix ever.”
In fact, star Anya Taylor-Joy just took home the Best Actress in a Limited Series award at the Golden Globes for her layered performance as orphan-turned-chess champion Beth. Taylor-Joy even sported chess nail art for the occasion, though she traded in Beth Harmon's strawberry bob for platinum mermaid locks that would make Rapunzel jealous.
Given the national obsession with The Queen's Gambit, will Netflix rethink its miniseries status and give us a second season? Unlikely. “The last scene feels like a beautiful note to end the show on, so I’m not sure if we want to go on and answer that question. Maybe we can just let the audience imagine what comes next,” Taylor-Joy told Town & Country in February, though she told Deadline, "never say ‘never’ in Hollywood.”
While the chances of seeing Beth Harmon on-screen again are slim, at least we all have access to hair dye and a killer idea for this year's Halloween costume.
