Hilary Duff Says Getting Multiple Coronavirus Tests Gave Her an Eye Infection

She was tested while filming "Younger."

Hilary Duff took a little hiatus from social media while she spent the holidays with her husband, Matthew Koma, and kids Luca, 8, and Banks, 2. (Oh, and let’s not forget about her little one that’s on the way.) Between raising her kiddos and filming Younger season seven in New York, it’s no wonder she needed a break. Once she logged back on, though, she told her followers what she’d been up to, which included one rather unsettling revelation.

“Then my eye started to look weird.....and hurt....a lot," she wrote on her Instagram Stories January 4. "Sooo.... took a little trip to the emergency room. I got an eye infection from all the COVID tests at work....cuz you know, 2020 and all." Duff, like many actors, receives frequent coronavirus tests due to working with large groups of people on set. She added that she’s since recovered from the infection. “PS.... My eye is fine, needed antibiotics," she wrote in another IG Story.

It's great Hilary Duff made a full recovery—but it is concerning to know the COVID-19 test might've caused an eye infection. Some outlets, like the BBC, have debunked myths like the idea that a nasal swab can cause brain damage (it can’t). Or that you can catch the virus from a COVID test (you won’t). The CDC does not list eye infections as a side effect of the test. This is just Duff's experience and should in no way stop you from getting tested.

Regardless, Duff is COVID-free, which is probably a relief to her. Especially because in November 2020, she revealed on Instagram that she’d been exposed to the virus. “Exposed to covid," she wrote in an Instagram Story. "Quarantine day 2 Fml." She never revealed to the public if she contracted COVID-19 or not, though we're sure, whatever the case, she's fine now. Hopefully, it stays that way.
