‘Insecure’ on HBO Will End After Season Five, and People Are in Their Feelings
I have some bad news on top of ~gestures wildly~ all that’s already going on: Insecure on HBO will end with season five.
HBO announced the news on January 13, marking the end of the critically acclaimed series helmed by creator and star Issa Rae. “Issa has turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO programming, in a statement, per Variety. “The show is as incisive as it is heartfelt, and it has resonated strongly with its audience because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, the cast, and the writers have put into it. This talented team has conceived a brilliant final season for Insecure, and we look forward to having many more stories to tell with this singular group of collaborators.”
Rae shared the news on Twitter January 13, writing that she’s “very excited to film our fifth and final season!” She continued, “We couldn’t have told a complete story without the tremendous support of our audience and the faith of HBO. See y’all soon!”

People on Twitter were, obviously, devastated to hear this news. “No more Molly, Issa and LAWRENCE. I need young black representation, relatable storylines, and laughs,” one user replied. “But I get it…you must move on to your next life venture.”

In her statement to Deadline, Rae thanked HBO for seeing Insecure through to its proper goodbye. “We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience,” she said. “I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen, at least.”
