Kate Middleton Has Reportedly Been ‘Reaching Out’ to Meghan Markle Amid Royal Tensions

She supposedly wants to “build up a relationship.”

Kate Middleton is reportedly trying to build bridges with Meghan Markle.

According to a source who spoke to Us Weekly, the Duchess of Cambridge is setting an example for other members of the royal family by “reaching out” to her sister-in-law amid ongoing tensions. “Kate has been reaching out to Meghan a lot more since [Lilibet] was born,” the source said. “She’s sending [notes and] gifts and trying to build up a relationship. The Firm has been instructing staffers to reach out more to Harry and Meghan to get them to soften a bit.”

While the two have undoubtedly had their differences, which were exposed during Markle and Prince Harry's explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, there has also seemed to be a mutual level of respect shared by the duchesses. “If you love me, you don’t have to hate her,” Markle implored in March. “And if you love her, you don’t have to hate me.”

Kate Middleton's efforts may have already rubbed off on her husband, Prince William. The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex reunited on July 1 to unveil a statue honoring their late mother, Princess Diana. At the event the brothers appeared to be cordial, despite Prince Harry's recent statements about his fractured relationships with his family.

“Today, on what would have been our mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength, and character—qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” the brothers said in a statement, according to People. ”Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.”

During his latest visit to the U.K., Prince Harry also spoke about his family's latest addition, baby Lilibet Diana, for the first time. “Two is definitely a juggle,” Prince Harry told Ed Sheeran at the 2021 WellChild Awards, according to Hello!. However, the Duke of Sussex marked himself lucky, adding, “[Lilibet is] very chilled and seems happy to just sit there while Archie is running around like crazy.”
