Kelsey Grammer Will Return as Frasier in a Paramount+ Reboot

It's unknown whether other original cast members will also revive their roles.

Kelsey Grammer is returning as Dr. Frasier Crane in a reboot of the popular series. Yes, you read that correctly: Frasier is coming back for another season on the streaming service, Paramount+. The show aired its final episode in 2004 after 11 seasons but continues to have a large fan base decades after its premiere.

Grammer is just as excited as viewers are about the return. “Having spent over 20 years of my creative life on the Paramount lot, both producing shows and performing in several, I'd like to congratulate Paramount+ on its entry into the streaming world,” Grammer says, per Digital Spy. “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr. Frasier Crane.”

CBS recently merged with Viacom to create ViacomCBS (the parent company of Paramount+). CBS Studios president David Stapf explains, per Digital Spy, that Frasier is “one of the most acclaimed comedies in modern television history.”

He continues, “There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered thanks to the amazing Kelsey Grammer reprising his iconic role of Dr. Frasier Crane and a brilliant creative plan from Joe, Chris, and Kelsey. We can't wait to reveal its next chapter on Paramount+.”

Since the announcement, fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter. “I hope the reboot is just Frasier doing all the old scripts, saying his lines as if everybody else is there with long silences in between, like Garfield Without Garfield,” one person wrote.

Another tweeted, “Calling everyone I know to tell them that the Frasier revival is confirmed.”

One fan joked, “Excited for Frasier’s journey through the intellectual dark web.”

However, some fans said that David Hyde Pierce, who plays Dr. Niles Crane, needs to also return to make the show worth watching. “No David Hyde pierce in the Frasier reboot? Automatically makes it a flop sorry.”

Another tweeted, “If there's no David Hyde Pierce in this Frasier reboot I am puzzled as to why you'd even bother.”

It's clear that fans are passionate about the show, so let's hope Paramount+ gets it right.
