It was only a matter of time, really.
Kim Kardashian May Be Starting a Skin-Care Line
File this under “news we should have seen coming.” It looks as though Kim Kardashian is going to launch a skin-care line.
There hasn’t been any official announcement yet, but Page Six looked at a slew of recently filed trademark applications, and from those, it looks like the KKW Beauty founder will soon launch a brand called SKKN by Kim encompassing “skin care, hair care, nail products, perfumes, candles, and more.” The reality star’s latest venture is Skims, a line of shapewear.
Her mother, Kris Jenner, has also filed the necessary trademark applications to launch a line called either Kris Jenner Skincare, Kris Jenner Beauty, or Kris Jenner Skin. Serums for the whole family!
As we reported in March, celebrity skin-care lines are all the rage these days. Because of the pandemic, sales of high-end makeup is down, but thanks to the wellness trend, skin-care sales remain strong. Celebrities are looking for another revenue stream, and skin care is, well, an easy one.
But they’re not all created equal. In her article for us, Leah Bourne explained, “How much risk a celebrity assumes by launching a skin-care line depends on how involved they even are. Starting the company from the ground up—as [Jennifer] Lopez has done and Kylie Jenner notably did—can be the most lucrative course but has the highest risk.” In other words, it’s easy to slap your name on something…but a bit harder to start from scratch.
If a Kim Kardashian skin-care line happens, it will surely be more than just her slapping her name onto some products. The selfie icon is incredibly transparent on social media about everything from her family to her beauty routine, so a skin-care line would most likely have that vibe. Drop your secrets, Kim! I have pen and paper at the ready.
