Lorde Just Dropped a New Song and Announced a New Album

She's back and on the beach. Fans are thrilled.

Four years after the release of Melodrama, Lorde is back with new music and a new video. New Zealand's own indie pop star dropped a single, called “Solar Power,” along with an accompanying video on June 10. She also announced that an album of the same name is on the way.

“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde wrote in a newsletter to fans, per Pitchfork. "In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learnt to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through…I want this album to be your summer companion, the one you pump on the drive to the beach. The one that lingers on your skin like a tan as the months get cooler again.” Olivia Rodrigo's Sour officially has competition for album of the summer.

The outlet also reports that the song was written and produced with Lorde's frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, who plays guitar and drums on the track; backing vocals come courtesy of Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers. Ugh, this club!

In the video Lorde is dressed in a happy yellow outfit, leading a band of earthy revelers in a little oceanside dance and ritual. It's a stark contrast from her earlier, moodier offerings. A line from her hit “Green Light” comes to mind: She thinks you love the beach, you're such a damn liar. Now the beach is for fun! More videos and a full album are reportedly on their way, though no dates have been announced.

Fans have wholeheartedly embraced the musician's new track and its Anthropologie-meets-Midsommar aesthetic. It cured their depression. They agree she is a pretty version of Jesus. As one fan put it, “Lorde said why be sad when you can be hot instead and u know what she's right”
