Meghan Markle Already Has the Prettiest Heirloom for Her Daughter

Markle says she “splurged” on this.

Who needs the crown jewels? Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's unborn daughter can expect to inherit not just a chicken coop in Santa Barbara and a host of celebrity friends, but a Cartier Tank watch, courtesy of her mom.

Back in 2015, then-TV star Markle told Hello! magazine that when her USA show Suits was picked up for a third season, she bought herself something a little fancy to celebrate. “I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch. When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season–which, at the time, felt like such a milestone–I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version,” she said, a year before she met Prince Harry.

Even then, she was looking toward her future life as a mom. “I had it engraved on the back, 'To M.M. From M.M,' and I plan to give it to my daughter one day," she said. "That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them."

A sweet reminder that style isn't just about having nice things, it's also about sharing them. And fine watches are an investment; the smaller version of the two-tones Cartier Tank Francaise currently retails for just under $6,000.

Page Six points out that Prince Harry's mother, Princess Diana, also wore the iconic timepiece on her wrist. The late princess owned both the Tank Louis and a Tank Francaise in yellow gold, which Prince Harry may have inherited. Cartier also provided Markle's wedding jewelry. Clearly, this brand is like a member of the family.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed they are expected a girl during their conversation with Oprah Winfrey, which aired March 7. "Grateful, having any child, any one or a two would have been amazing, but to have a boy and then a girl ... now we've got our family and we've got four of us," said Prince Harry. Watches, babies…good things in small packages!
