Phoebe Dynevor Explains How ‘Bridgerton’ Will Deal With Regé-Jean Page’s Absence in Season 2

We know you've been wondering.

Phoebe Dynevor has a bit of insight into how Bridgerton will look without breakout star Regé-Jean Page.

“It’s definitely different,” the Netflix star told The Wrap in an interview published on June 2. “And I’ve said it before, but I think the fans who have read the books and know the books are aware that every season will focus on a different sibling’s journey. And it might be a little bit more of a—not shock, but like a surprise for the fans that love Daphne and Simon’s story so much. But I think that’s honestly the joy of the show in the long-term, getting to see these different love stories play out.”

While the upcoming season is based on Julia Quinn's novel The Viscount Who Loved Me and will focus heavily on Daphne's brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), it's not like the Duke of Hastings will cease to exist. “I think he’ll definitely be referred to a lot. I think we’ll see the baby,” Dynevor continued. “And we’ll just focus more on her relationship with the Bridgerton family.”

The British actor, who is reportedly in the middle of a love story of her own with Pete Davidson, told The Wrap she has spoken to Page since the April announcement that he was leaving the beloved period drama. “I think it was unexpected for both of us how big the show got and the ownership that people have over the characters, which is brilliant and amazing in so many ways,” she said. “But we’re also both working actors and we’re just plodding along. I think it’s just funny, but also lovely, that people feel so close to them both. It’s such a compliment and it’s lovely. And I can’t wait to see what Regé does next in his career.”

As for Page, he recently opened up about his decision to move on from the series in an interview with Variety, citing the season-one finale as the perfect send-off: “Simon was this bomb of a one-season antagonist, to be reformed and to find his true self through Daphne…. I think one of the bravest things about the romance genre is allowing people a happy ending.”
