Queen Elizabeth Reportedly Met Meghan and Harry’s Baby Girl on a Video Call

Sorry, but this is so cute.

Queen Elizabeth II has reportedly met her 11th great-grandchild and namesake, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on a video call. Per a source who spoke to People, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “were very excited and couldn’t wait to share that their daughter arrived,” and set up the video call shortly after returning home from the hospital.

Baby Lilibet is actually named after Prince Harry’s grandmother, the queen; the name is the one she goes by with her closest relatives. When announcing her birth, the statement from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s spokesperson explained, “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”

As we reported, the moniker Lili is also in keeping with a family tradition started by Markle’s mom, Doria Ragland, who called her daughter “flower” as a kid.

Queen Elizabeth II reportedly gave her blessing for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to use her nickname for their daughter.

“Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lilibet Diana!
The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news. Lilibet is Her Majesty’s 11th great-grandchild,” the royal family wrote on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Prince Charles referenced Lili’s arrival at a recent engagement. While visiting a Mini car factory in Cowley, Oxfordshire, he said (per Page Six), “The development of technology like electric vehicles, or green hydrogen for that matter for heavy transport, is vital for maintaining the health of our world for future generations, something I am only too aware of today, having recently become a grandfather for the fifth time…. Such happy news really does remind one of the necessity of continued innovation in this area–especially around sustainable battery technology–in view of the legacy we bequeath to our grandchildren.”
