Sand Bronde Is the Beachy Summer Hair Color You've Been Looking For

It's the next best thing to a tropical vacation.

We may not be padding across an Ibizan beach right now (if you are, don't speak to us, we're too jealous) but we can bring the delicious vacay vibes to us. Salt-licked and sunkissed strands are timeless for a reason, but this year, fresh, gorgeous hair feels even more important.

As Phoebe Waller-Bridge says: "Hair is everything," and warm, foxy strands are exactly the mood-boost we need after scraping our hair back into a pineapple bun for the best part of a year.

If you're on the hunt for a change, but still want to keep your color low-key (that's no to platinum and neon brights, then), you're best off sticking to some beautifully applied highlights and a tactical blend of blonde and brunette, better known as 'bronde'.

The best bit about 'bronde'? It's a sliding scale, which means whether your hair is naturally lighter or darker, you can land on a color combo that suits you to a T.

One rendition we've seen taking off recently, though, is 'sand bronde'. Think your classic bronde, only beachier. It introduces flecks of golden or creamy sand through hair to add an extra dimension that's perfect for summer.

Be warned, you'll need to book into your salon for this one as it's a pro technique that requires a master of balayage. The team at Los Pastel in Perth created this pretty "freehand sand" by painting blonde pieces on a natural base to brighten the color.

Vivid Salon in Toronto introduced pretty sandy tones to a deeper brunette base with a neutral beige "that allows for lots of shine and glow."

Hair artist, Chris Weber created ocean-kissed sandy-beige highlights through deep brunette with expertly blended balayage.

But for brighter believable brondes, he recommends keeping the color warmer and adding different shades of blonde throughout. And to keep it lower-maintenance, ask for a soft root shadow to ensure it grows out seamlessly.

Finally, to keep it feeling luxe and glam, ask your colorist to incorporate some sparkly brighter pieces for a little shimmer and shine, like Colored By Caitlin who created a high contrast sand bronde by blending sandy streaks through a darker base. Just wait til it catches that summer sunshine.
