See Who’s Playing Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in the New Lifetime Movie

"Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace" will air this fall.

Call it The Great Escape: Royal Edition—or in Lifetime’s case, Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace. A fictional retelling of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down as senior working members of the royal family is coming later this year.

Following the 2018 ratings hit Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, the “sequel” (2019’s Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal), and undoubtedly the much-talked about Oprah Winfrey interview, Lifetime has green-lit a third edition, with production currently underway.

Update: On May 19, 2021, Lifetime announced that Jordan Dean (The Punisher) and Sydney Morton (She’s Gotta Have It) will portray the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (see below for a photo of the pair in character). Filming began this week in Vancouver for a fall 2021 debut. Dean and Morton take over the roles previously played by Parisa Fitz-Henley and Murray Fraser (Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance), and Tiffany Smith and Charlie Field (Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal). Director Menhaj Huda is on board again after directing the first two films.

Lifetime/A&E Networks

Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will do a (fictional) deep dive into the couple’s break from the royal family. Per Lifetime’s press release, the movie will “reveal what really happened inside the palace that drove Harry and Meghan to leave everything behind in order to make a future for themselves and their son, Archie. The movie will detail Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that ‘The Firm’ was not defending them against the press’s attacks, and Harry’s fear that history would repeat itself and he would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that caused his mother’s untimely death.”

The release continues, “Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will also reveal the private family feuds between Will and Harry, Kate and Meghan, and Harry with Will and Charles, that led to the ultimate break from the royal ties.” Of course, keep in mind this is a fictional portrayal of the events.

We’ll update this post when the first trailer is available.
