Take note!
There's Now a Cheaper Way to (Legally) Stream 'Friends' and 'Gossip Girl'
HBO Max just launched a cheaper option, so give your wallet a break while you wait for the Gossip Girl revival. Their new service, HBO Max With Ads, is available starting Wednesday, June 2, so far only in the United States.
The plan is just $10 a month, or $100 for the year if you lock in for the full year now. Per Variety, the company promises “no more than four minutes of commercials per hour of streaming content."
If you subscribe to the ad-supported version, you won't be able to download titles for offline viewing, streaming will be capped at 1080p (should look great on your computer, might not be pristine enough for a project-it-on-the-wall movie night), and the same-day Warner Bros. releases (like the upcoming Dune remake) won't be available right away. But yes, you can binge Friends, Gossip Girl (both OG and revival!), and Sex and the City to your heart's content. And if you're wondering where HBO Max is going to put the ads on shows like Mare of Easttown, which originally played on the famously commercial-free HBO without ad breaks, the answer is, it won't. HBO content won't have ads. Like we said, perfect time to get caught up on Sex and the City while …And Just Like That comes together. Or re-familiarize yourself with the world of Game of Thrones while House of the Dragon is filming.
And while you're binge-watching old favorites at a reduced price, why not check out some of the platform's great documentaries? Watching a documentary makes you smarter and more well-informed. It's like reading a book, but easy and not boring. See what all the fuss was about on McMillion$ or discover how the Instagram influencer economy works in Fake Famous. And actually, technically, the Friends reunion was a documentary. Technically.
