Tom Felton Reveals His Grandpa Had a Secret Cameo in 'Harry Potter'
The first Harry Potter movie premiered almost 20 years ago, but there are still secrets unknown to fans. Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, is documenting his HP rewatch on Instagram, and he's spilling all sorts of tea.
While watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, he revealed his grandpa, Nigel Anstey, appears in a scene as a Hogwarts professor. "That's my grandpa again! The guy with the beard," Felton said when Anstey appeared on the screen during a Quidditch game. “White beard! Huge beard right next to Lee Jordan. And there's me again.” He added, "It's a family thing, mental! Mental!"
Anstey also appears in a scene with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco, when they see the Great Hall for the first time. In 2020, Felton shared a still of his grandpa alongside actor Luke Youngblood, who played Lee Jordan.
Tom Felton also made comments regarding his character, Draco, calling him a "little cocky shit." Later, he admitted that although Harry Potter is his enemy onscreen, he actually supports the character in real life. “I'm not sure who I want to defend there,” he added. “Screw you, Potter! But no, screw you, Malfoy. He's a real dick."
Of course, diehard Harry Potter fans are thrilled to see his candid reaction to the films. One person wrote, “Your reactions were so sweet. I love it! You have a huge wonderful heart, thank you for brightening up our days. I love you so so much 💚 🥺."
A Harry Potter TV show is rumored to be in the works on HBO Max. The streaming service seems committed to creating nostalgic content for viewers (it's also reviving Gossip Girl and Sex and the City), so it's not a surprise people think more HP is coming.
“Executives at HBO Max and Warners are engaged in meetings to find a writer and pitch for a Harry Potter TV series,” but “no writers or talent are currently attached as the conversations are still in the extremely early stages and no deals have been made," The Hollywood Reporter wrote a few weeks ago. For what it's worth, HBO Max denied the rumor: “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform."
