Why People Think This ‘Outlander’ Star Is Joining the New ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Show
Production is up and running on HBO's highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, set some 300 years before Ned Stark became Hand of the King of Westeros. And while the main cast has been confirmed (Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke are taking lead roles), there are surely more parts to fill.
Just like with GoT, internet fan theories are already abundant—including one pretty convincing hypothesis that Graham McTavish, a.k.a. Dougal Mackenzie on Outlander, will be a character in House of the Dragon named Harrold Westerling. (Per E!, Harrold is the “Lord Commander of the Kingsguard under the Targaryens.” Fancy!) Fans have also posited McTavish may be playing Lyonel Strong, Cregan Stark, or Borros Baratheon, all characters featured in the book on which House of the Dragon is based, Fire & Blood.
This speculation hinges on a set photo posted to Reddit that seems to show McTavish in costume. Redditors noted that House of the Dragon has been added to the actor's filmography on Wikipedia, but I should point out that anyone can edit a Wikipedia page. So take this all with a grain of salt for now.
There's also this Instagram photo McTavish posted a little over a week ago, admiring early spring in Cornwall. “The delights of Cornwall. It’s been a while since I last came down to the south west of England but it is definitely worth it. Beautiful,” he wrote in the caption.
House of the Dragon has reportedly been shooting nearby, so make of that what you will.
Graham McTavish would be perfect for this series, so I hope this theory is legit. Like Game of Thrones, Outlander is a mix of history, fantasy, violence, and sex. He'd have no problem transitioning from that to House of the Dragon. We need a confirmation, sir! Regardless, I can't wait to tune in.
